About Me

Welcome to Living in 3D! I’m Rev. Shirley Lynn DeMerchant and I live in Woodstock, NB, Canada. I desire to live my life to the fullest under the lordship of Christ and I’m looking for others who desire the same. The purpose of Living in 3D is to inspire and encourage believers to love God more, to go deeper in their faith and understanding of scripture, and to be intentional in their habits and choices so they fulfill God’s purpose for their lives and for His world.

I am a graduate of Acadia Divinity College in Wolfville, Nova Scotia, and am ordained in the Convention of Atlantic Baptist Churches. My ministry experience includes:

– serving as a staff worker with Inter-Varsity Christian Fellowship (IVCF) in St. John’s, Newfoundland

– serving with the Overseas Missionary Fellowship (OMF) in South Korea where I taught Conversational English and was pastor of the English ministry in a Korean Presbyterian Church

– serving as Senior Pastor of Stevens Road United Baptist Church in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia for eight years

– serving on the Women’s Inter-Church Council of Canada (WICC) for eight years as a council member and presently as President (2016-2018).

At this time in my life, I am focusing on writing and developing an online ministry. This provides the flexibility I need to care for family members. My interests include reading, preaching, teaching, missions and justice issues.

I would be interested in knowing more about you. What helps you grow spiritually? What are your concerns and challenges? Please feel free to contact me and let me know how I can best serve you.

  1. A couple of years ago you showed a film that was about a young girl who was almost lured into the sex trade. It showed how easy it was for a smart, young, well brought up girl to unknowingly be targeted for the sex trade as she worked as a waitress. Unfortunately I do not remember the title but would like to show this film. If it is still available, I would like to know how I may purchase a copy.
    Thank you for your time.

    • Hi Patricia,

Thanks for your question about the DVD on human trafficking. It’s called Chosen and is produced by Shared Hope International. You can order it at https://sharedhope.org/store/. Did you see it when I showed it at the ABW convention? It is the best resource for teens and families that I have come across so far. The DVD is about $50 US plus shipping. I encourage associations and ministerials to invest in several so that there are always copies available to share with youth groups, churches, community groups and families.

In case you want to encourage other churches to buy one I have included a description of the story below along with the link for the trailer.

      Chosen – Film

      (Run Time: 21:34)

Learn the shocking true story of two teen girls tricked by traffickers. Brianna, 18, was a star student, cheerleader and waitress eager to break out of her small town to attend college in the big city. Lacy, 13, enjoyed church and school but struggled to help care for her siblings while her stepfather was deployed and mother worked to support the family. Brianna and Lacy share how traffickers used manipulation to lure them into the world of sex trafficking.

Let me know if you have any other questions. This is a growing issue in Canada. Church youth groups as well are being targetted so we need to educate and warn our young people.
